Woman charged with drunk driving, assault and injuring sister

Some actions may feel harmless when they begin. When actions conflict with Pennsylvania law, an individual may face serious charges and consequences if convicted. One woman is likely speaking with an attorney about her recent arrest for drunk driving and assault.

The woman’s arrest followed an unusual incident that involved her sister, speeding and drunk driving. Allegedly, the 23-year-old woman was speeding up and down the same road when her sister jumped on the hood of the vehicle. The sister is 15 years old, and it is unknown at this time what prompted her to jump on the vehicle. Unfortunately, the teenager was thrown from the moving vehicle and suffered a serious head injury. She is expected to survive.

In addition to being accused of injuring her sister, the woman faces a host of legal charges. Allegedly, she pushed, kicked and tried to bite authorities after they arrived on the scene of the accident, resulting in assault charges. Because of an alleged strong odor of alcohol, the woman was asked to perform a blood alcohol test, but she refused. Apparently, she should not have been driving in the first place because her license was already suspended from a previous DUI.

Any charges of drunk driving are serious and can impact an individual’s future. Unfortunately, some cases of drunk driving may result in injuries to other people, complicating a case.  Previous similar offenses can also result in complications as the consequences of a DUI are stricter if a conviction is secured for another offense. Pennsylvania criminal defense attorneys can advise an individual of the best defense strategy while advocating for the client’s rights through the process.
