When you purchase or renew your motor vehicle insurance you are given the option of purchasing uninsured and underinsured motorist insurance. These insurance options protect you even if you or your family is in a collision with another driver who has no insurance or very limited insurance. You can only consider yourself fully protected if you have both the full tort policy with uninsured/underinsured motorist protection.
When you purchase uninsured and underinsured insurance you will be given the option to have the limit to be the same as your liability coverage or at a reduced amount. I recommend keeping the uninsured/underinsured limit the same as your liability limit. In that way, if you are seriously injured by a driver who has either no insurance or a very minimum amount, you will be fully protected.
