Pennsylvania has recently enacted a new law which will allow motorcyclists to go through a red light. If you are a motorcycle rider you know how frustrating it can be to pull up to a red light only to have it not change because the red light sensor did not detect your motorcycle.
Governor Wolfe signed a new law which went into effect on Sunday, September 18th that would allow the rider to stop at the intersection and then proceed if the light does not change. In effect it’s the same thing as pulling up to a stop sign. Obviously, the driver cannot proceed through the intersection until they have stopped and made sure that it is safe to continue. As the sponsor of the bill, Richard Irvin stated “This will just allow the motorcyclist to proceed with caution after they have fully stopped and moved through the intersection in a safe manner.”
