When students go to college they sometimes have a new sense of freedom. On occasion that sense turns to foolishness which can sometimes turn into a felony criminal act.
For example, it is not uncommon for a person to have too much to drink, become unaware of the surroundings and wander into an apartment or house that they thought was theirs. When that apartment turns out it belongs to somebody else this foolish act can lead to a felony charge of criminal trespass.
Similarly, new students will often want to explore parts of the university that are off limits to all but authorized personal. A student caught in one of these areas can be facing a burglary charge, depending upon their intentions.
