Drunk driving, stolen gun, other charges filed against woman

Although anyone accused of a criminal offense is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty, the mere stigma of being criminally charged can negatively impact a person’s life and future. Recently, one Pennsylvania woman was pulled over on suspicion of drunk driving. Unfortunately, her legal troubles quickly became more complicated when a stolen gun was discovered, and she allegedly attempted to use a passport in place of her drivers license.

Police say the woman was speeding when she was pulled over. They also say she was operating her vehicle with a suspended license. In fact, she supposedly offered her passport to the officer, stating that she could not locate her license. While accessing the situation, the officer reported smelling alcohol on the woman. The 26-year-old apparently denied drinking at first, but allegedly confessed later to having an unspecified number of drinks that night.

During a search of her vehicle, police say they discovered a loaded handgun. It had apparently been reported as stolen, and police say the woman did not possess a firearms license. She was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including driving under the influence, possessing stolen property, speeding, driving without a license and careless driving. At last report, she was being detained in lieu of $30,000 bail. Her next court date was reportedly scheduled for June 16.

Drunk driving and other criminal charges, even in the absence of a conviction, could result in loss of a job and damage to one’s reputation. Navigating the criminal court system alone is often confusing and intimidating. With so much on the line, it makes sense to secure the services of a criminal defense attorney well versed in Pennsylvania drunk driving laws and local court procedures.
