Young people often make immature and irresponsible decisions that may affect them for the rest of their lives. They may not realize that being caught drunk driving or in the possession of illegal drugs is reality with immediate and long-term consequences. A young man’s poor decisions while operating a vehicle recently resulted in his arrest in Pennsylvania.

The 26-year-old man allegedly made a minor traffic violation that was observed by a local police officer. The violation prompted the officer to pull over the young man, and reports indicate that the young man complied with the officer’s wishes and pulled over in a nearby parking lot. Upon speaking with the young man, the officer suspected the man was driving under the influence. Reports state that two other officers arrived to assist and also suspected the young man may have been smoking marijuana. They based their assumption on smell emanating from the vehicle and the appearance of the man’s eyes.

The young man allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was told that he would be arrested for driving under the influence. Unfortunately, the man complicated his situation by attempting to resist arrest and running from the authorities. He made it about half a mile before an additional officer was able to stop him. Allegedly, a small amount of marijuana was found stashed in his vehicle.

The court considers drunk driving or driving under the influence of drugs a serious offense, and unfortunately, the young man’s alleged wrong choices could result in a permanent criminal record. A Pennsylvania attorney with experience in the criminal court system can advise him of the best strategy for his defense. If a conviction cannot be avoided, an attorney can negotiate for the best possible outcome for his case.
