Relationships can bring out the best and the worst in people. It is unknown what may have sparked an argument between a Pennsylvania couple, but whatever the disagreement was, it has resulted in assault charges for one woman. She has been accused of running over her boyfriend with a vehicle as well as an attack on emergency workers.
A neighbor claims to have witnessed the entire incident between the 44-year-old woman and her boyfriend. The boyfriend was walking along the shoulder of the road when the woman used her SUV to hit him. The neighbor recounts that after striking the boyfriend with her vehicle, the woman allegedly backed it up and attempted to run over him again.
According to the witness report, the woman may have driven away from the scene, but she was reportedly present when emergency workers were attending to the medical needs of her boyfriend. As workers attempted to load the boyfriend into an ambulance, she allegedly punched one in the back. Another worker attempted to hold her back following the punch and claims that she bit him in the process. More than a week after the incident, she was arraigned and formally charged with assault and harassment. Her bail is set at $50,000.
It is understandable that couples will have disagreements and arguments with one another. When a fight escalates and results in criminal charges such as assault, the consequences can be much more than a broken heart. Pennsylvania criminal defense attorneys are experienced with handling various assault charges and can help an individual with understanding the best defense strategy based on the collected evidence of a case.
