The Wyoming State Senate recently passed a bill that would bring back the firing squad for death row inmates in Wyoming. Apparently the problems with lethal injection have caused lawmakers to reconsider this mode of execution. Utah is the only other state that authorizes the firing squad for penalty cases.
There have been several problems around the nation with the lethal injection execution. Additionally, pharmaceutical companies are reluctant to sell the drugs, not wanting to be linked with death penalties. Therefore, the drugs become more difficult for prisons to obtain.
There are also constitutional issues regarding lethal injections. The United States Supreme Court recently agreed to consider a case from Oklahoma brought by inmates who have challenged the drug protocol used by Oklahoma for the death penalty.
