Pennsylvania has had an anti-hazing law which applied only to college students. In May of this year, however, Governor Wolfe extended the provisions of the anti-hazing law to 7th-12th graders.
The penalty for hazing is a third-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to a $2,500 fine and a one-year jail sentence. The law also allows schools to place students on suspension, probation and to withhold their transcripts or diplomas.
So now not only does the anti-hazing law apply to Penn State students, it also covers students in 7th-12th grades in State College, Bellefonte, Penns Valley and other Pennsylvania schools.
