In a case which arose out of Philadelphia, the jury awarded each Plaintiff $1.The Plaintiffs in this case were involved in a side-swipe collision.
At some point after the collision the Plaintiffs said they felt tightness in their backs and they were diagnosed with strains and sprains.
The jurors originally wanted to award no damage but the Judge told them that they must give at least some money to the Plaintiffs. The jurors thereupon awarded each plaintiff the grand total of $1.
The Superior Court upheld the $2 award.
The moral of this story is if you think you are going to strike it rich simply by suing the other person you may want to think again. Certainly seriously injured people who have permanent damage deserve adequate awards and settlements. Therefore, if you are injured in a motor vehicle collision tread very carefully before you file a lawsuit which will cause you to incur expenses.
