A recent article in The Wall Street Journal told the story of a person who had a 2001 conviction for misreporting the status of a loan on the books of a bank where he was employed. As a result of that conviction, this person lost his job in May 2015 when a background check revealed the conviction.
Despite a 2009 study that found that after ten to thirteen year ex-offenders pose no great risk of having involvement with other offenses, there are still many employers who are reluctant to hire people whose background checks reveal criminal convictions.
