After recent mass shootings, the request for concealed carry permits has jumped. In one western county, the average request was fifteen to twenty per day and that has spiked to sixty applications per day. In Allegheny County, PA, the chief deputy sheriff has said that applications have risen significantly in the past month.
The sheriff of Olster County, New York has asked people who are licensed to carry a firearm please do so. In Pennsylvania, to get a concealed carry permit, a person simply goes, for example, to the Centre County Sheriff’s Office and fills out an application. The license is valid for five years.
Once a person has a license to carry a concealed weapon, they can carry it on their person or in their vehicle. Without a license, the weapon cannot be carried in a vehicle.
Ironically, you don’t need a license to carry a firearm if it is not concealed. Conceivably, a person could strap on a six-shooter, walk down the streets of State College, and be perfectly legal, but I would not advocate that practice.
