Judgment is known to be impaired by alcohol consumption. The amount of alcohol that causes impairment varies from person to person. Unfortunately, impaired judgment can cause a person to make regretful mistakes. Sometimes those mistakes conflict with established law, leading to immediate and long term consequences. Recently in Pennsylvania, a young man allegedly became drunk, resulting in an arrest and assault charge.
A local bar alerted authorities to a fight between two young men. Authorities reported that when they arrived there was evidence of an apparent fight and drunkenness. The 22-year-old male allegedly had dried blood on his face, a cut on his lip, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol.
Upon learning that he would possibly receive a citation for the bar fight, the young man allegedly attempted to flee the scene. While struggling with police to get away, it was reported that he struck one of the officers. He was arrested and charged with felony assault on the officer. His bail was set at $75,000.
A felony assault charge and a possible conviction at a young age can have long-term consequences. It may result in jail time and/or probation, but it also could impair future employment, rental and school applications. Criminal defense attorneys in Pennsylvania are experienced to navigate the court system for the accused and will formulate a strategy designed to achieve the best possible outcome. Attorneys may be able to negotiate lesser charges and a minimized sentence if a criminal conviction cannot be avoided.
